X-Rays
X-Rays may be ordered by a GP or a specialist. An X-Ray is rather like a penetrating photograph that relies on ionizing radiation to create an image. X-Rays are particularly good at looking at bones and joints, but can also be used to evaluate soft tissue and gas structures.
An X-Ray film or “plate” is placed on one side of the patient and the X-Ray “camera” on the other. A brief exposure period allows the film to be exposed. The film is then developed and an image created.
